Several pathways are involved in cellular stress responses. These include the unfolded protein response (UPR), which deals with misfolded proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum; the heat shock response, which involves the production of heat shock proteins that help in protein folding and protection; and the oxidative stress response, which involves the production of antioxidants to neutralize reactive oxygen species (ROS).
